Record attendance for PQ2011!

The world's largest performance design event ended up after eleven day on Sunday, June 26th, 2011. During those eleven days over 40,000 visitors enjoyed exhibitions, installations, lectures and performances at the Veletržní Palace - National Gallery, Prague Crossroads, Piazzetta of the National Theatre and other places in Prague - a couple of thousands more than during the last Prague Quadrennial, four years ago. Follow the program!

The Intersection project is travelling to Portugal, Italy, Germany, Serbia, Latvia, Slovakia, Finland, Norway and Hungary, from July 2011 - check the calendar and plan a trip to see again your favourites Boxes...

As well as the Intersection project, which will tour several European countries, some projects of the accompanying program PQ+ will continue to fall in the Czech Republic.

PQ+ accompanying program was focused on the theatrical performances and exhibitions of stage design and visual art produced in the Czech cultural environment and included 59 organizations and more than 70 events. In the coming months you will still be able to see long term exhibitions dedicated to set design and visual art.

Polish Institute in Prague offers student work in the exhibition Images of Space. Prof. Andrzej Markiewicz´s Studio of Scenography, until September 15.

In the Cafe Gallery Black Swan is an exhibition of leading Czech stage designer Jaroslav Malina. Scenographer and Painter Jaroslav Malina, to September the 2nd.

Romanian Cultural Institute offers an exhibition of the forgotten scenographer George Baron Löwendal, until July, 28.

Slovak Institute in Prague recalls the work of three costume designers. Three Ladies of the Slovak Theatre Costume, until July 12.

Brno House of Arts opened the third year of the biennial in the streets of the city. Brno Art Open: Sculptures in the Streets III, until August 28 and the exhibition of Czech and German artists. Raum:selbst (space:self), until August 14.

The exhibition in Prague's gallery Futura takes the theme of life in a totalitarian society. Loophole to Happiness, until August 7.

Tranzitdisplay represents the work of Lebanese artist Rabih Mroué, until July 31.

Centre for Contemporary Art Dox immerses you into the world of Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner. Rudolf Steiner and Contemporary Art, until September 12.

Museum Montanelli and Foundation DrAk has prepared an exhibition of Czech art brut titled Anatomia Methamorphosis, until October.

State Castle Lysice shows the historical puppets from the collection of Marie and Pavel Jirasek. The Puppets on the Castle, until October.

And the winner is...

Brazil!

Yesterday evening, the winners of the 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space awards were announced at the National Theatre’s New Stage. Returning home with the Golden Triga, the most prestigious award in the field is the team from Brazil. The objective of the Brazilian exhibit was to present scenography as a provocative art that “establishes a pulsating frontier of languages” and provides a safe haven for theatrical characters and ideas. The Brazilians also took home the award for Best Realization of a Production. Other awards went to Croatia, Latvia, Hungary, New Zealand, Mexico, Greece, the UK and Norway.

The Opening Ceremony of the PQ 2011 was held on Thursday, June 15th from 5pm in the four venues dedicated to the PQ: the Veletržní Palace - National Gallery, the PQ 2011 main venue  INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE EXHIBITION, the Piazzetta of the National Theatre, where the Intersection Boxes emerged, the Prague Crossroads hosting the Architecture Section and the DAMU, where hundreds of students are expected for the Scenofest, educational project of the Prague Quadrennial and OISTAT. Watch video.

E-scenography, a new online service

Become an online scenographer using the E-scenography service!

E-scenography is an online service created by the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space within the Intersection project.

E-scenography aims to create an informational community to discuss issues connected to scenography, including all performance design disciplines, theatre architecture, and space. Join in!

E-scenography provides 3 services:

  • the newsletter IntersectionS –you can post information about scenography / performance design projects (performances, exhibitions, symposia, books, etc.) – to be distributed  to the E-scenography mailing list (currrently about 10 000 email addresses).
  • the Scenography Education service (the art school database) – you can search for a school connected to performance design and architecture (currently about 200 schools profiles) and active employees of schools can add or edit information about their school in the list.
     
  • the Scenography Expanding service (an online library) – you can upload and download texts and other materials connected to scenography theoretical and historical discourse.

E-scenography´s content is created by you, the scenographers: stage, costume, sound, and lighting designers, teachers, curators, and theorists. Join in!

The services are available for registered users only - it is free of charge.
